Our Biblical Precedent

February 6, 2018

"Who lends money to the poor without interest;

who does not accept a bribe against the innocent.

Whoever does these things

will never be shaken."

Psalm 15:5

Caring about the Poor:

Scripture speaks often about the treatment of the poor and justice for those who are oppressed. Psalms and Proverbs are full of verses about helping those who cannot help themselves.

Jesus' Ministry:

In Luke 4, Jesus went to the synagogue in his hometown. There he read a passage from Isaiah 61: "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has annointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

OneIN's Mission:

Our mission at OneIN is to follow Jesus' example by caring for those who have been taken advantage of by people in positions of power. We base our ministry on Psalm 15:5, which says that the one who knows God well is the one "who lends money to the poor without interest and does not accept a bribe against the innocent." This is where our philosophy of ministry begins.

OneIN gives interest-free loans to people in poverty situations. This allows them to work hard and provide for themselves and their families. Many of those with whom we work have been taken advantage of by people who loaned them money at extremely high interest rates, then controlled them and even enslaved them when they couldn't pay back those loans.

A Spiritual Result:

When people's basic needs are met, they are free to begin thinking about spiritual things and about how God has sustained them over the years. By loaning them the money without interest, OneIN shows them that the people of God do not take advantage of them but extend care and grace freely.

The Pig Bank Sponsorship Program

Pig banks are no new trend.  It's a simple idea, yet makes a huge impact. At OneIN, we've decided to stick with the basics. We're looking for 10 individuals this year to take 10 pig banks to pass out, track, and return in 3 months time. We are excited to see how God uses this model of raising funds to start new businesses and empower the poor around the around the world. **If you are interested in becoming a OneIN Pig Bank sponsor, send us an email at info@onein.org. Meet our first Pig Bank Sponsor, Erika!

"My name is Erika and I'm a freshman at Ball State University studying Public Relations with a double minor in Spanish and Public Health. I am involved in the dance marathon at Ball State for Riley Children's Hospital and I am a member of CRU Worship on campus. I got connected with OneIN through a charity dinner that I attended with my family hosted by Chris in July 2017. After hearing of the success and the lives they are changing, I took the initiative of contacting Chris and Vanessa to try to further my participation. Considering my past with non-profits and my hope to utlilize my degree in this field, I was eager to get involved with the culture and contribute my knowledge of fundraising and spreading the word. The OneIn Piggy Bank Program was right up my ally regarding raising money and it is a great way to stay in the loop of the changes OneIn is making over seas and in people's lives."
